Bienvenido! I am the Burrito Bandito, and welcome to my blog. Within this space I will take you along with me as I embark on an epic quest: to locate and crown the site of Glasgow's king of burritos. Why bother, you may be asking yourselves? What gives you the right to crown such a title? Well, allow me to explain, mi hermanos. Having worked in a Mexican restaurant for several years, I have formed a strong bond with the one we call, burrito; one would not dare to quantify the sheer number I have consumed. Alas, I have grown weary of consuming the fine wears of my restaurant, and wish to expand my comfort zone, broaden my horizons: depart the warmth of the familiar and step into the cold, unforgiving wilderness. In more literal terms, I must eat more burritos. All the burritos. Any burrito I can get my hands on. I will not stop until I uncover true burrito greatness. Of course, such an important and crucial matter requires a scientific level of attention to detail, and so I have developed a set of parameters to gauge to overall quality and grade of each burrito I shall be evaluating:

  • Atmosphere
  • Freshness of ingredients
  • Preparation and build quality
  • Filling distribution
  • Overall taste
Using this grading system I believe I will successfully be able to separate the alpha from the beta burritos in this city. Each burrito will be graded out of 10 with intense scrutiny and attention to detail, with the highest being crowned the best burrito in all of Glasgow. 

Join me on my journey! If you believe a particular burrito to be suitable for the throne, inform me, and I shall put it to the test.

TOPOLABAMBA Review - "Bastion of Burrito Brilliance" - Glasgow's Best Burrito

You can stop rubbing your eyes in disbelief: this really is the second burrito review in a week. My quest for Glasgow’s best burrito has gathered blistering pace, and after much searching, I have found a fourth foe with which to do battle – Topolabamba, on St Vincent Street. A stalwart of the Glasgow food scene since its inception 4 years ago, Topolabamba has established itself as a bastion of burrito brilliance, serving up “authentic Mexican street food” in a “casual but not too casual atmosphere”.   Its success on the west coast has allowed two further branches to be opened, one in our fair capital, and the other in Aberdeen. TACO MAZAMA Review - "VIP Guacamole" - Glasgow's Best Burrito

Seconds out. Time for round two. This time around the opponent we face is Taco Mazama, within its Hope Street branch. A relatively new venture, Taco Mazama serves an exclusively Scottish market, with three branches in Glasgow and also three in Edinburgh. With a humble mission statement of believing in providing fresh and tasty Mexican street food to the hungry public, they "promise to provide quality, delicious, and healthy Mexican street food time and time again" - some fearless, noble, and some may say reckless claims to make considering how high the stakes. They talk the talk, lets see if they can walk the walk. A restaurant which takes such pride in its burrito craftsmanship must be put to the test.
